A reminder that the AGM will commence after the presentations for the Metrogaine at the Blackmans Bay Hall (24 Ocean Esplanade) commencing at approximately 6:30pm, Saturday the 3rd of February 2018.

Rogaining Tasmania is run entirely by volunteers, so if you’d like to contribute, and have some fun doing it, please consider volunteering for a committee position or other role.

Entries are now open for our next event, the Kingborough Local Links Metrogaine, which will be a 3 hour event starting from Blackmans Bay on Saturday February 3rd. This will be a Question and Answer style event which promises to be a bit a summer fun to get you warmed-up for 2018. Event organisers are Kristin Raw, Sally Wayte and Darryl Smith.  More details can be viewed here.

Other Rogaining Tasmania events in 2018 will include a 6 and 12 hour event in Rheban on April 28th and a bike/on-foot event mid-year. We are looking at holding a bush event, possibly an 8 & 24 hr event, in late November.

For those of you wishing to experience rogaining outside of Tassie – The 2018 Australasian Champs will be held near Brisbane on the 25 & 26th of August. For more info go to http://www.qldrogaine.asn.au/qraonline/html/wp

You have just one week remaining to enter this event. Entries close on the night of Wednesday 5th of July. Since the deadline is so close to the event date, we won’t be accepting late entries. Details and on-line entry are at https://www.rt.asn.au/index.php/events/upcoming-events/east-west-ride-and-roam

Both Donald Trump and I are new to the role of President, and we are both finding out that it is not straightforward. At the moment, Rogaine Tasmania’s upcoming event schedule is a bit “up in the air”.

The organisers of the Rheban event have discovered that much of the forest area they were planning on using has become impenetrably overgrown. Also – there are issues accessing many areas due to breeding raptors and shore birds. To best utilise this great area, the event will be moved to early next year, probably as a 12 and 6-hour. We’ll let you know the new date as soon as possible.

We are looking at substituting a 12 and 6-hour event to be held in the Derwent Valley on the date that the Rheban event was to be held. This event will only occur if we can quickly raise an organising team.  We already have one volunteer, and the committee can assist with map production and landowner approvals. The committee will take care of administration and catering matters. So, this would be a very easy introduction to being a rogaine organiser.
