The 2018 Intervarsity Rogaining Championships will be held in conjunction with the Australasian Rogaining Championships on 25-26 August in South East Queensland. The Nigel Aylott Memorial Sports Foundation (NAMSF) supports university students to travel to the event. NAMSF was set up in memory of Nigel, a keen adventure racer and rogainer, to encourage engagement in these outdoor sports.
The Intervarsity Rogaining Championships is open to all university students (full-time, part-time, undergraduate, or post-graduate). Students in a team must be from the same university. In awarding the travel subsidy, preference is given to undergraduate teams.

Nearly 20 years on from the last event in this location, the Rheban countryside once again offers sweeping views of Mercury Passage and Maria Island and a pleasant landscape for a 6 & 12 hour rogaine event. The course is all set, the vetters are applying the polish and entries will soon be open. Vast areas of impenetrable scrub have been excised from the course, leaving scenic and mostly runnable forest with some farm land in the mix. The 12-hour competitors should expect some climbs but those views make it worthwhile.
Rod started rogaining in 1998 and very quickly became involved in event organisation. He has been the lead organiser of 6 events, these are 2001 Me’an, 2003 Bangor Revisited, 2007 Picturegaine, 2010 Picturegaine, 2012 August Amble and 2013 Mt Murray. For the Mt Murray event he did the landowner contacts, the majority of the field work and drew the map as well.

A reminder that the AGM will commence after the presentations for the Metrogaine at the Blackmans Bay Hall (24 Ocean Esplanade) commencing at approximately 6:30pm, Saturday the 3rd of February 2018.
Rogaining Tasmania is run entirely by volunteers, so if you’d like to contribute, and have some fun doing it, please consider volunteering for a committee position or other role.
Entries are now open for our next event, the Kingborough Local Links Metrogaine, which will be a 3 hour event starting from Blackmans Bay on Saturday February 3rd. This will be a Question and Answer style event which promises to be a bit a summer fun to get you warmed-up for 2018. Event organisers are Kristin Raw, Sally Wayte and Darryl Smith.
Other Rogaining Tasmania events in 2018 will include a 6 and 12 hour event in Rheban on April 28th and a bike/on-foot event mid-year. We are looking at holding a bush event, possibly an 8 & 24 hr event, in late November.
