Rogaining Tasmania Inc.

Rogaining Tasmania's next event will be the Marieville Mayhem Metrogaine on Sunday 22 May 2022. The MMM offers something for everyone, from runners and walkers attracted to the bushy hills of the Waterworks and Mount Nelson, to pavement pounders happy to explore the urban shores of the River Derwent. Starting at the scout hall on Marieville Esplanade, Sandy Bay, the map stretches from the Truganini Track in Mount Nelson, to Ridgeway reserve, Knocklofty, and the Domain. Explore some of the lesser-known trails and visit checkpoints that celebrate the area’s history and culture. You’ll encounter beautiful bushland, delightful murals, abandoned fields, and the odd intact hut. In the urban areas, visit public artworks, beaches, novelty letterboxes. Participants willing to tackle the area’s notorious hills will be rewarded with beautiful views and high points (excuse the pun).

The MMM is a question and answer-style event (for example, ‘how many snowflakes in the mural?’). Being a metrogaine, the navigation will not be too tricky, but please bring a compass just in case. Choose from a 3-hour or 6-hour event, but we encourage you to enter the 6-hour to give you enough time to explore the trails without having to rush back in a panic. Keep in mind that you can always return to the hash house early to enjoy the afternoon tea that is provided as part of your entry fee.

This is a great event for new rogainers and for those wanting to improve their bush navigation skills ahead of November’s 24-hour rogaine near Campbell Town. As a team, pick a route that maximises your score while minimising distance travelled and/or hills depending on your strengths and passions. This event is strictly on foot (no bikes), but you can walk, run, dance, or skip the course. There will be help for novices on the day, and teams comprising all first-timers have their own entry category with modest prizes on offer. Tuck away those mobile phones and have fun exploring Hobart with just a map and compass. We look forward to seeing you in May.
